A shootout has reportedly ensued between army personnel and militants in a forest area of Katsuna in Bandipora. About two militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

The incident comes two days after 12 people were injured in a grenade explosion near the Tourist Reception Centre in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar.  The explosion occurred in the crowded TRC in the Sunday market. Many civilians were present in the area at the time of the attack. The explosion caused panic in the area and sent shoppers scrambling for cover. A weekly market is held every Sunday at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, where a large number of people gather.

Last week, security forces gunned down three terrorists in two separate shootouts in Jammu & Kashmir. One terrorist was killed in the Khanyar area of Srinagar. During the anti-terror operations, two CRPF jawans and two policemen were also injured.

The other two terrorists were gunned down by the security forces near Halkan Gali in the Shangus-Larnoo area in Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir. The gunbattle broke out after security forces initiated an anti-terrorist operation in the area. One of the two militants killed in the Anantnag shootout was reportedly a Pakistani and the other was a local.

In yet another incident on November 2, two migrants from Uttar Pradesh were injured in a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Budgam district. The UP natives, Sufiyan and Usman, sustained injuries after being shot at in the Mazhama area of Magam in Budgam.

They were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment. The migrants belonged to Saharanpur and were engaged as workers in the Jal Jeevan Project, which aims at providing clean tap water to rural households in the region.

While one of them was hit in his arm, the other one was shot in his leg. They were shifted to the SDH Magam Hospital. After the attack, the area was cordoned off by the security forces and a manhunt was launched to nab the militants who attacked the non-locals.
