Grammy winner to perform
by Josh Dawson · CastanetThe Kamloops Symphony Orchestra will be hosting a pair of shows this weekend, with a Grammy Award winner and Kamloops-based children's author set to perform live.
Alex Cuba, the 2022 Grammy winner for Best Latin Pop Album, a two-time Juno Award winner and four-time Latin Grammy recipient, will play live with the KSO on Friday and Saturday at the Sagebrush Theatre.
“Audiences can expect a vibrant mix of rhythms and melodies that will take them on a musical journey to the sun-laden beaches of Havana,” the KSO said in a news release.
The concerts will also kick of the KSO’s 2024-25 Kelson Group Pop Series, which will continue with Christmas with the KSO and From Paris to Broadway with Louise Pitre.
On Sunday, the KSO will kick off its Kids Concerts and Relaxed Performances series with a performance of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid with local children’s author and screenwriter George Johnson.
The performance will be conducted by KSO Music Director Dina Gilbert and narrated by Johnson.
“Whether you're a long-time music lover or new to the symphony, The Little Mermaid will capture your imagination with its stunning score and timeless story,” the KSO said.
The kids concert will be held at 2 p.m. and the relaxed performance at 4 p.m. at the Sagebrush Theatre.
