Burns planned east of city
by Tim Petruk · CastanetSmoke may be visible in the Pinantan Lake area northeast of Kamloops in the coming weeks as crews conduct pile burns in an effort to reduce wildfire fuels.
According to the BC Wildfire Service, a fuel-management project will be carried out between Thursday and the end of the month.
The agency said such burns help to reduce wildfire hazards.
“Pile burning will only proceed if conditions are favourable,” the BCWS said in a news release.
“BC Wildfire Service personnel will carefully prepare, control and monitor these piles at all times."
BCWS said smoke will be visible in the Pinantan area, as well as to surrounding communities.
