Residents can now recycle end-of-life books at the Summerland Library, moving the program away from the landfill.

The District of Summerland shared the news on Wednesday, noting the landfill had ended its book recycling program due to theft of recycling carts.

"Moving the program to the library offers a convenient option for residents at no extra cost," they added.

The library will continue to offer recycling for damaged books and those with low resale value, such as outdated textbooks and encyclopedias.

"Please note that softcover and hardcover books are not recyclable through home recycling collection or at the landfill. However, magazines and equipment instruction manuals are acceptable."

Library hours can be found online here.
