James Gunn Confirms New Batman Movie THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD Is Still Moving Forward
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantThere have been a lot of rumors surrounding the future of Batman and the DCU. There have been reports that The Batman franchise would be folded into the DCU, and reports that The Brave and the Bold was going through some behind-the-scenes issues.
Well, DC Studios co-head James Gunn is clarifying some things. While talking with Omelete, Gunn confirmed, "Right now we’re moving forward with Brave and the Bold, that’s happening right now and Matt is writing The Batman 2 and that’s happening right now."
That seems like a clear indication that these two Batman projects are both happening and that they will be completely separate. So, don’t expect Robert Pattinson to be joining this rebooted DCU franchise.
That whole rumor never made much sense to me or the rest of the fans, so it’s good to have some clarification on that.
As for when the movie will be released, Gunn told Collider: “There’s no set timeline for anything. The one thing that I’ve tried to make clear to people from the beginning, in the way that I hope we’re different, is that everything in DC is going to be based on the writers. Until we have a screenplay that I’m totally happy with, that movie is not going to get made, no matter what it is.”
Gunn was also asked when we'll see the first Superman trailer and, smiling, replied, "It won't be too long."
Andy Muschietti is set to direct, which will introduce the new DCU version of Batman. The project is inspired by Grant Morrison's popular Batman comics run, and it will focus on Bruce Wayne's relationship with his biological son, Damian Wayne. Batman: The Brave and the Bold is said to be one of Gunn and Safran’s favorite projects.
When previously talking about this project, Gunn said: “So this is the introduction of the DCU Batman, Bruce Wayne, and also introducing our favorite Robin, Damian Wayne, who is a little son of a bitch, assassin murderer, who he unwittingly takes on, who's Batman's actual son that he doesn't know exists for the first eight to 10 years of his life, and he brings into his life and this is a story. It's a very strange sort of father son story about the two of them.”
