SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF Creator Hints at Potential Scott Pilgrim Spinoffs
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantLast week we learned that Netflix would not be moving forward with a second season of its Scott Pilgrim Takes Offanime series. Now, there were apparently no plans for a second season anyway, but that doesn’t mean we won’t see any more projects set in the world of Scott Pilgrim.
BenDavid Grabinski, who worked with Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley in developing the series, recently explained that while Season 2 was never in the plans, he’s not done with playing in the Scott Pilgrim sandbox and hints at the fact that something else might be happening.
He said: “I just want to clarify then I never at any point intended to make a second season of SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF and also had no ideas for one. But I’m sure I’m not done with the world of SP. I only say this because I keep seeing stories about it being ‘cancelled.’”
It seems like he knows something that the rest of us don’t about the future of the Scott Pilgrim franchise. Who knows, maybe there’s a spinoff project being developed.
O’Malley shared the news of the cancelation on, saying: “It’s been one year since Scott Pilgrim Takes Off came out. It was an honor to work with all of the cast & staff around the world. It was like conducting a symphony orchestra every day.
“From the moment [series writer BenDavid Granbinski] sparked the idea, the project felt like a one of a kind miracle. Anyway, we were recently informed that the show will NOT return.”
“As you know, we only intended one season, and called in a lot of favors to make it happen, so making more would have been nearly impossible. Still, I know some of you have been holding out hope.”
One of the things that made Scott Pilgrim Takes Off special was the entire cast from the film returned to reprise their roles including Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Ramona Flowers, Satya Bhabha as Matthew Patel, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, Alison Pill as Kim Pine, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Brandon Routh as Todd Ingram, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Johnny Simmons as “Young” Neil Nordegraf, Mark Webber as Stephen Stills, Mae Whitman as Roxie Richter, and Ellen Wong as Knives Chau.
Would you like to see the world of Scott Pilgrim explored more in a spinoff show? What characters would you like to see it focus on?
