CAPTAIN AMERICA: BRAVE NEW WORLD Director Says the New Cap and Falcon's Brotherhood Is Emotional Center of the Film
by Jessica Fisher · GeekTyrantSam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) was always the right hand man to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) in the MCU before Captain America’s retirement in Avengers: Endgame.
Since then, Sam went from Falcon to the new Captain America, donning the suit and shield, but he won’t be found without his own wingman by his side.
With Bucky off on his own adventures, which we will see in the upcoming film Thunderbolts* in May, Captain America’s new sidekick will be Danny Ramirez’s Joaquín Torres.
Aside from the high-flying action the film promises, the relationship between Captain America and Falcon will also provide some heart in the Marvel movie aiming mostly at political-thriller intrigue. Director Julius Onah tells Empire of the new Cap-Falcon relationship:
“There’s this incredible big brother/little brother dynamic between them. It’s going to be one of the key emotional centres of the film.”
He says that as they prepare to face all kinds of subterfuge, as well as Harrison Ford’s Red Hulk-ed-up President Ross, Sam and Joaquin will need to have each other’s backs. And by all accounts, they’re ready to step it up when the action comes calling. Onah went on:
“These guys are all incredible fighters. And Sam has been there and back. He’s got some tricks up his sleeve, and over the course of the film there are things he comes to learn that become other tools in his arsenal, when he’s facing even the most impossible of threats.”
I am looking forward to seeing this new Captain America movie. It looks like it’s going to pack in a lot of excitement, and start a cool new chapter for Mackie’s Cap.
Captain America: Brave New World is set to be released in theaters on February 14, 2025.
