Three ARCANE Spinoff Projects Confirmed To Be in Development
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantWe’ve already known for a while that Netflix and Riot Games’ have been working on spinoffs for the League of Legends animated adaptation Arcane, which came to an end this past weekend following a two-season run of 18 episodes.
We now know that the creative team behind the series are working on developing three spin-offs set in various known locations in the League of Legends universe.
Showrunner Christian Linke revealed that Noxus, Ionia, and Demacia are the “next steps into this cinematic universe.”
During an interview with Twitch streamer Necrit94, Linke confirmed: “We are investing quite a bit in Noxus, Ionia, Demacia [...] We start, really, with character stories. But I’m very confident that we’re investing in the right stories [...] We have a lot of data, we know which characters our audience likes and plays a lot.”
While there was no details on what characters these projects will center on, Linke noted that they have “a lot of fandom, a lot of interest.” He also said that these featured Champions weren’t specifically picked because of their in-game winrate, but because of how much players like them according to lore.
Future Arcane projects would be limited to these three locations, though, as Linke specifically noted, “we are looking at every region.” He also mentioned that the next series “is already in development for about a year.”
As a fan of Arcane, I can’t wait to see what stories that the creative teams tell next!
During a previous interview, Linke explained that the spinoffs are all going to be very different from each other. He said: “We’re working on a bunch of new fallout projects. We want to tell more stories in the different regions, for the different characters.
“And those are going to be very, very different from each other. Some of them will be more whimsical, some of them will be more serious and dark. Arcane is just the first step of a much, much bigger dream of storytelling.”
He went on to say: “Personally, I think in terms of storytelling we haven’t done enough with the whimsical corner of our IP. And I definitely have a focus to do something bigger there.
“Again, there are a lot of projects we’re exploring but on a personal level, we haven’t done enough for our audience in that particular tonality. I’m very excited about doing more there.”
