Trailer for Noah Wyle's Hospital Drama Series THE PITT Coming to Max
by Joey Paur · GeekTyrantMax has released the first trailer for Noah Wyle’s upcoming hospital-set medical drama series The Pitt. The series comes from ER and West Wing executive producer John Wells.
The Pitt is described as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Penn.”
The first season will consist of 15 episodes and the story takes place across one 15-hour emergency room shift, with each one-hour episode representing real-time, just like the series 24 did.
This looks like a great show, but it’s wrapped up in a bit of controversy as the estate of Michael Crichton has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television, alleging The Pitt is an unauthorized reboot of ER, which Crichton created.
Warner Bros. TV responded to the lawsuit, saying “The Pitt is a completely different show from ER,” with HBO boss Casey Bloys recently telling reporters that he doesn’t expect the litigation to have an impact on The Pitt’s January release.
R. Scott Gemmill will serve as showrunner on the series, with John Wells executive producing. The series reunites Wyle, Gemmill, and Wells, as all three previously worked together on ER.
Wyle, Wells, and Gemmill said in a joint statement: “We are grateful to Warner Bros. Television and Max for giving us this opportunity to return to the world of urban medicine.
“The myriad of challenges facing the doctors, nurses, technicians, patients, and their families who work in the trenches of modern medicine have become only more pronounced in the decade and a half since we last visited their stories.
“We’re thrilled to be able to return to this world with the support of our partners and are looking forward to pushing the boundaries of dramatic realism and medical accuracy in following the lives of these heroic men and women.”
The series will premiere on Max in January 2025.
