Coronation Street is reportedly set to air a devastating storyline which will see one character killed off.

According to reports, actress Sue Devaney, who first graced the cobbles as Debbie Webster in 1984 and made a comeback in 2019, will deliver a gut-wrenching performance as her character faces a dementia diagnosis in the near future.

The devastating storyline, which will apparently kick off in 2025, will be a 'long-running storyline' and 'promises to be heartbreaking'.

A source told the Metro: "It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year, and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline.

"It’s one of many major storylines new boss Kate Brooks has in the bag, and there will not be a dry eye in the house. There is no doubt in the Corrie family that she will give the performance of a lifetime and make Debbie’s exit one to remember for years."

Coronation Street have yet to comment on the storyline and news. ITV has been approached for comment.

Sue initially joined the cast 40 years ago in 1984, staying until 1985. She returned to play Kevin Webster's sister Debbie in 2019, quickly becoming a fan favourite.

Debbie is one of my favourite characters Sue will absolutely smash this as always #Corrie xx" while another added: "Just read the spoilers about Debbie in #Corrie.
