Plymouth apprentice dies at work after suffering medical episode

by · PlymouthLive

An inquest has been opened into the death of a 58-year-old apprentice who suffered a medical episode at work. The death of Serghei Tambov was recorded at a public hearing on November 20 by area coroner Alison Longhorn at Exeter County Hall, now the main coroner's court for Devon, Plymouth and Torbay.

She confirmed that Serghei was born in Babadag, Romania and resided at an address in Carlton Terrace, Eldad Hill, Plymouth. He passed away at the Picquet Barracks in Cumberland Road, Devonport on June 4, 2024. At the time of his death he was married and an apprentice by occupation.

Ms Longhorn explained the circumstances surround Serghei's death during the brief hearing, saying that he "experienced a medical episode at work"

She added: "An ambulance was called to assist and paramedics attended but despite best efforts he was found to have passed away. There are no suspicious circumstances."

She confirmed a post mortem was carried out but on the current evidence the medical cause of death was unascertained. Ms Longhorn adjourned the hearing and a full inquest will take place at a later date.

Plymouth City Council has previously confirmed that any family or friends who wishes to attend the full inquest can request for it to be held at Plymouth's Coroner's Court rather than be forced to travel to the Exeter venue.
