I'm A Celeb's Coleen Rooney's 'religious' preparations to rival 'younger women'
by Michael Moran · PlymouthLiveI'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! contestant Coleen Rooney has been preparing 'religiously' for the show's iconic shower with Pilates sessions, an insider claimed.
The show has become a mainstay of British TV over 22 years, with certain expectations such as the vertigo-inducing rope bridge and the notorious Bushtucker Trials. But one I'm A Celeb tradition has been called into question – the infamous jungle shower, a necessity for celebs to wash off the critters they encounter in their star-hunting escapades.
This year, while some of her female co-stars have expressed discomfort with the idea of "cringe-worthy" shower scenes, Coleen Rooney seems unfazed.
Speaking to Best Magazine, an insider revealed, "Coleen has been hitting the Pilates sessions religiously and thrown herself into having a svelte physique so she looks amazing on screen. There will be younger women on the show with her and she, understandably, wants to feel confident in a bikini."
Paid a record-breaking fee for her participation, Rooney seems determined to turn heads on ITV's hit show. When Myleene Klass stepped under the waterfall back in 2006 clad in a white bikini, she became synonymous with the series, yet newer entrants like GK Barry, Tulisa Contostavlos, and Oti Mabuse have decided not to take part in these steamy scenarios, reports the Daily Record.
Tulisa has shared her thoughts on the iconic jungle shower scenes in I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! She explained: "I think because on a show like this, if you're standing in the shower, everyone's very aware that they're being watched. So it's like, if you overdo it, it just feels mad cringey to me. I don't feel like Myleene, years ago, had that in mind. "
She went on to suggest that while it was fine for Myleene back then, viewers today might see the open-air showers as a cynical ploy. Meanwhile, Coleen isn't taking any risks when it comes to her appearance, having prepared to be bikini-body ready well before the first episode.
Despite the notorious small food portions in the camp, Coleen isn't too concerned, sharing: 'I don't think small portions will be as hard as the other things. I am quite petite and I do run around some days and miss a meal.
"But not on purpose," she clarified, "more because I'm so busy. When that happens, I don't get hangry."
However, she admits to feeling less confident about the daunting trials, filled with all manner of creepy-crawlies, confessing: "I don't have phobias, but the older you get, things you never got nervous about, you do now," she revealed.
I'm A Celeb returns tonight (Wednesday, November 20) at 9pm on ITV.
