I'm A Celeb's Coleen Rooney became Wayne's 'therapist' before making 'strong decision'
by Matt Davies · PlymouthLiveColeen Rooney has divulged her role as the "therapist" within her marriage to Wayne, underscoring that they have both "moved on" from difficult times.
In a discussion with The Times, Coleen spoke frankly about life with the ex-Manchester United ace, expressing her desire for others to progress past their history.
The I'm A Celeb star, having navigated numerous high-profile scandals with her husband, felt like she had been acting as the "therapist" for the football legend. Addressing whether they've sought couples' therapy, Coleen asserted: "No! We've never felt the need. I've probably tried to act as the therapist."
She further clarified her stance, saying, "It's my decision whatever line I want to go down. I like to think I'm strong enough to say, 'Enough's enough,' or 'Let's continue and go forward with this.'" She continued: "We've moved on with our lives, we wish other people would."
The mother of four – to Kai, Klay, Kit, and Cass – with the current Plymouth Argyle manager, has devoted fifteen years to raising their children at home. Despite the family's main base being in Cheshire, Wayne resides in Plymouth.
During a recent airing of I'm A Celebrity, Coleen voiced that the public hasn't let her husband off the hook for previous slip-ups but emphasised that despite everything, they are "happy now".
Previously, Wayne was sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid community service in 2017 after being caught drink-driving, with the former striker later apologising for an “unforgivable lack of judgment”.
He also found himself entangled in controversy back in 2004 when he admitted to using "massage parlours and prostitutes" while he was romantically involved with Coleen.
At the time, he explained that he had been "very young and immature" before he and his partner had truly "settled down".
The issue resurfaced in 2010 with allegations involving escorts Helen Wood and Jennifer Thompson, who claimed Wayne had paid for their services while Coleen was pregnant.
Coleen later reflected on these turbulent times in her autobiography 'My Account,' writing: "That was a massive test for me and of our relationship."
She recounted the challenges they faced, saying, "Everyone knows I forgave him and we got through it, but it wasn't an overnight thing. As a family, we went through a terrible time. Nothing about this was easy for me."
Offering further insight into her journey with Wayne on an episode of I'm A Celebrity, she shared her experience with campmate Oti Mabuse: "When things have happened the public have wanted it to just go oh, split, you know, that's it, split them up. But the fact is, there's always been love still there..."
Emphasising the strength of their bond, Coleen added, "It has been difficult, but we're happy now, after all those years... we're a team."
