Coronation Street fans 'work out' who sets fire to Platt's house - and it's not Mason's brothers
by Joe Crutchley · PlymouthLiveCoronation Street fans are convinced they know who starts the house fire at the Platts - and it’s not who you think.
Next year, the cobbles will be rocked by the shock events of a house fire. Real-life residents around the soap set were warned recently about a fire stunt that is currently being filmed.
They were told to expect loud explosions as well as fire effects - but not to panic. What’s more, the notice informed that the show would also be recreating a house fire, and that an explosion would be triggered.
A source also told the Metro: “The early part of the year is going to kick off the new era of Corrie with a bang pretty literally and one of the show’s core families are right at the heart of the fire storyline. With a new boss at the helm, the show isn’t pulling any punches and it’s fair to say some fan-favourite lives are on the line.”
What’s more, last week, snaps obtained by The Sun show how the drama unfolds, as a fire rips through the Platt residence, No.8. It’s not known for certain though if Sally and Tim Metcalfe’s (Sally Dynevor and Joe Duttine) house next door is affected too.
Several cast members have also shared a number of behind-the-scenes photos last week during the night shoots. Bethany Platt star Lucy Fallon uploaded a snap with co-stars Paddy Bever, who plays Max Turner, and Julia Goulding, who plays Shona Platt. The stars were trying to keep warm in dry robes.
Meanwhile, Sally Carman-Duttine, who plays Abi Webster, also shared a photo from set. She uploaded a photo of heat patches and body warmers and wrote “Night shoots”.
Now, fans are certain they know who is the culprit behind the fire. While many viewers reckon it’s down to Mason Radcliffe’s (Luca Toolan) thug brothers, Matty and Logan Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff and Harry Lowbridge), other people have a different suspect in mind.
Sharing their thoughts on a Corrie Facebook fan page, viewers think it could be David Platt (Jack P Shephard). Fans will recall David was left fuming when Gail put their house up for sale a few months ago.
He then resorted to desperate measures and stole a ton of dirty cash from thug Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor). Now, fans think he could torch the place down as part of an insurance scam.
One person said: “I think the house fire will take place in the Platts house and that David will start the fire!” Someone else wrote: “He’s doing it so Gail gets the insurance to rebuild it.” A third penned: “Might be an insurance job to get a payout hmm.”
Other fans reckon Harvey’s thug group could start it as revenge. One fan wrote: “I think it will be an insurance job, or word gets to Damian that David stole the money and as punishment he gets someone to petrol bomb it.” Another agreed: “I think it's from the men in prison but Mason’s brothers get the blame.”
