Netflix viewers have been left feeling let down once more as another highly-rated series has been cancelled after just two seasons. To add to the disappointment, this sequel to a beloved 1990s sitcom concluded its most recent season with an enticing cliffhanger and numerous unresolved storylines.

The follow-up to the massively popular That 70s Show, which starred Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, a third season of That 90s Show won't be appearing on our screens anytime soon.

The show features returning cast members Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith as Kitty and Red Forman, and revolves around their granddaughter Leia (played by Callie Haverda), who forms new friendships during her summer stay with her grandparents in 1995.

Released in two parts in June and August 2024, the second season left Leia's fate uncertain after she decided to stay with Kitty and Red in Point Place for the school year. However, her mother Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon) had a disagreement with Kitty over the decision, and the season finale ends with hints that she might rethink her choice to let Leia stay.

At the same time, Leia's relationship with Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel) was also left in limbo after Jay lied to her about stealing Kitty's keys to host a party on the school's rooftop, suggesting a possible breakup in the now abandoned Part Four.

Fans of That 90s Show have taken to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the unresolved storylines following the series' cancellation, reports the Manchester Evening News.

A disgruntled fan exclaimed on X: "What the hell?!!! Noooooo, at least give the series a proper ending please!"

Another disappointed viewer commented: "Well this sucks! I loved this show, fingers crossed someone picks it up and we get season 3. You can't leave us on a cliffhanger like that!"

One person criticised Netflix directly: "WTF @Netflix - why do you keep canceling awesome shows?"

They added: "Imagine if every show was canceled after two seasons just because it's not getting the numbers you expect. Give a show a chance, especially this one!"

On Reddit as well, fans shared their regret over the cancellation, with one posting: "I'm actually kind of disappointed. Part 2 was weak but Part 3 was their best and it felt like they'd finally found their footing."

Yet not all feedback was negative, with a user pointedly saying: "The nostalgia wore off after like 2 episodes. It just wasn't as funny. The cast also lacked the original's chemistry."

Despite its cancellation, there remains the possibility that That 90s Show could see a revival on another platform if fan support is strong enough. At present though, the journey for Leia in Point Place hangs in the balance.

That 90s Show is available to stream on Netflix.
