Coronation Street icon 'set to return' for co-star's heartbreaking death storyline
by Joe Crutchley · PlymouthLiveA beloved Coronation Street star could be making a surprise comeback, 24 years after their cobbles debut.
Rose Webster (Helen Flanagan) made her debut on the soap back in 2000, aged just nine, and she quickly became a fan favourite. Over the years, viewers watched her grow up on the long-running programme as Sally (Sally Dynevor) and Kevin’s (Michael Le Vellkk) rebellious daughter.
And it’s fair to say she’s played a part in several big storylines on the cobbles. From shock affairs to grooming and kidnapping, her time in Weatherfield was not short of drama.
In 2012, actress Helen decided to leave the soap to pursue other acting opportunities. She also had a rather memorable stint on I’m A Celebrity that same year.
After making a brief reappearance in 2017, Helen left again in 2018 to go back on maternity leave to have her daughter Delilah. And she has not been seen since.
However, this week, it was reported that Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) - who is Rosie’s aunt - is set to be killed off. According to reports, actress Sue Devaney will deliver a gut-wrenching performance as her character faces a dementia diagnosis in the near future.
The devastating storyline, which will apparently kick off in 2025, will be “long-running” and “promises to be heartbreaking”. A source told the Metro : "It’s one of the show’s biggest storylines of the year and a real chance for Sue to finally get her time in the spotlight – it will just be devastating for fans that it will effectively be her final storyline.”
Now, fans are certain Debbie’s new storyline could tie-in a return for Rosie. On X, one person said: “Hoping that this storyline with Debbie leads to a Webster revival with Rosie & Sophie returning.” Someone else added: “I'd love to see Rosie or Sophie back on the cobbles”. A third wrote: “Back for Debbie’s funeral.” Another person penned: “Even if only one comes back I'll be happy.”
What’s more, bookies also reckon a return could be on the cards for a Rosie. In odds from Gambling.com, the bookies have chalked up Rosie actor Helen to return to the soap next year with odds of 4/7. As for a comeback by the end of the year, she has odds of 8/13.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
