Woman launches side hustle to help you on Vinted, Depop and Facebook

Resell with Rachel has been so popular, Rachel now has a waitlist

A Plymouth woman has launched a side hustle selling unwanted clothing for other people. If you've ever sold anything on Vinted or Facebook Marketplace, you may have found it quite time consuming or overwhelming.

But Rachel James aims to take that stress away with Resell with Rachel. She takes bundles of clothes from her customers and makes them a profit.

The 29-year-old personal assistant started with helping her friends sell their unworn clothes when one friend was about to take four bin bags to the charity shop.

Rachel said "let me have a go at selling some bits" and made her friend £230. Her friends then encouraged her to start a business and she took the leap in March after a Facebook post.

"A lady wrote on Facebook 'is anyone good at selling clothes for a fee' and I thought I would help her out, and give it a try. I went and collected some items from her and within a couple of days I made her £100," Rachel said.

As Rachel works 24-hour shifts, she says she has a lot of free time on her days off to sell clothes. "Within the first couple of days of setting up my Facebook page I had so many messages from people, just saying what an amazing idea it is," she said.

"I now currently have a wait list of people wanting me to sell their clothes for them. It's been a learning process as I go. I've learnt different things I need to take into consideration and not to take too much at once as it can be quite overwhelming, as a lot of work goes into selling clothes!

"Everyone has been so understanding and amazing since the start. From the age of 15 I always really enjoyed working in retail and when I left I missed parts of it so much, I feel like doing this has brought back those areas that I missed."

Rachel sells clothing on a number of selling sites and holds items for a month, pushing it to sell as much as she can. At the end of each month she totals up the sales for each customer and takes 30% - and the rest goes to her customers. Any clothing items that do not sell, she will either return to the customer or will donate to the women's refuge.

"I put everything for sale on the page at really affordable prices. Some bits are new with tags! So if you are not looking to sell items, you can always pick yourself up at a bargain price."

Rachel says her business helps keep her mind busy. "I also love that I'm helping people make some extra cash and that people are buying clothes from me at a really affordable price," she added.

"Not only is this helping with the cost of living situation but it is also helping the environment by cutting down on fast fashion. Also the women's refuge struggle to get donations, so they are always very grateful I have given them lots of items so far."

At the moment Rachel only takes women's clothing and some men's items - as she operates from a spare room in her home and can only take so many items at once.

"I would love to one day expand and have a unit or shop here in Plymouth - that way I could also take babies and children's clothes and get through my waitlist quicker."
