Artists honoured at 36th Margazhi Mahotsav held at Bharat Kalachar

Many artists were honoured at the inauguration of the 36th Margazhi Mahotsav at Bharat Kalachar here on Sunday.

The Gnana Kala Bharathi was presented to veteran thavil exponent Haridwaramangalam A.K. Palanivel. The Viswa Kala Bharathi went to bharatanatyam exponent Shobana Chandrakumar and Carnatic musicians — The Malladi Brothers (Malladi Sree Rama Prasad and Malladi Ravikumar). Bharatanatyam exponent Meenakshi Chitharanjan received the Acharya Kala Bharathi. While Kala Seva Bharathi was given to bharatanatyam exponent Priya Murle, the Nadaga Kala Bharathi went to K.R.S. Kumar. 

The K. Balachander Trophy for Artistic Excellence was presented to film director Suresh Krissna. Artists who received the Yuva Kala Bharathi include Swarathmika Srikanth, Uthara Unnikrishnan, Sahana Selvaganesh, P.V. Adithya, Shivani Krishnamurthy, Aparajitha, Ramya Venkataraman, Parur Ananthlakshmi, and Sriram Srinivasan. The Bala Kala Bharathi Award went to Sooryanarayanan, Amirthavarshini Manishankar, and Siddhant Anand. The Special Commendation Award was given to R. Balaji (UAA), Paati Sundara Rajan, Kali Veerapathiran, N. Sundar Kumar, and Shuba Chandramouli. 

Minister of State for Petroleum and Tourism Suresh Gopi said Margazhi Mahotsav was a platform that promoted and supported sustenance of the great culture of our country. Veteran bharatanatyam exponent Chitra Visweswaran said Bharat Kalachar had been propagating arts for many years.

Y. Gee Mahendra, secretary of Bharat Kalachar, Y.G. Madhuvanthi, cultural consultant, Rekha Murthy Rangarajan, whole time director of Data Patterns (India Limited), and Shobhana were among those who spoke.
