KDA raises concern over Kannada missing from Bengaluru traffic signboards
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduKannada Development Authority (KDA) chairman Prof. Purushothama Bilimale has written to Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda, raising concerns over Kannada missing from traffic signboards.
“In a metropolitan city like Bengaluru, where the State has adopted a three-language policy, signboards should be in at least two languages: Kannada and English. Many traffic signboards currently appear only in English, and it is essential that they also include Kannada,” he said.
Speaking to The Hindu, Prof. Bilimale highlighted other concerns including the absence of Kannada in certain legal documents, pointing out that these documents need to be submitted to courts, police stations, and the Home Department in general.
He also said that the KDA would soon visit the city’s police offices and the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for an inspection on the implementation of Kannada as an administrative language in these bodies.
