Man convicted for harassing wife in Hassan
by The Hindu Bureau · The HinduA Hassan court recently convicted a person for assaulting his wife and sentenced him to three years imprisonment, besides imposing penalties.
Fazzil Ahmed of Belur town, the convicted, was regularly harassing his wife Raziya Banu physically and mentally. He had hit her with a knife on September 4, 2016. Belur police had registered the case.
The police filed the chargesheet after conducting the investigation. The Second Additional and Sessions Judge in Hassan heard the case and convicted him. The court sentenced him to one-year imprisonment, besides slapping a fine of ₹5,000 under Section 498(A) of IPC. For attempting to murder, under Section 307 of IPC, the court sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment and slapped a fine of ₹5,000. Further, under Section 504, the court sentenced him to another six months’ imprisonment and imposed a penalty of ₹2,000.
The court also ordered a compensation of ₹2 lakh to Raziya Bhanu, according to a press release issued by the district police. K.S. Nagendra represented the prosecution.
