College student killed after hit by an express train near railway station

A 22-year-old woman was killed after being hit by an express train near the Perambur Carriage Works on Friday.

The Perambur Government Railway Police (GRP) have filed a case and are investigating.

A senior official of the GRP said Catherine Shoba was a resident of Kallikuppam in Ambattur and was pursuing Bachelor of physical education at a private college in Vepery.

On Friday morning, Shoba had got down at the Perambur loco station and was walking near the tracks towards the Perambur Carriage Works station when the Thiruvananthapuram Express (12696), operated from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai Central, hit her.

The college student was killed on the spot. On being alerted about the incident, the Perambur GRP sent the body of the victim to Government Kilpauk medical college hospital for post-mortem.
