A “Maha Deepam” was lit atop the Rockfort Thayumanaswamy temple in Tiruchi on the occasion of Karthigai Deepam on Friday.  As part of the festival, deeparadhana was performed to Arulmigu Sevvanthi Vinayakar, Arulmigu Thayumanaswamy, Arulmigu Mattuvarkuzhalammai and ‘Urchava Murthis’ at the temple in the evening.

The “Maha Deepam” was lit at 6 p.m. on a copper cauldron placed atop the nearly 40-foot tower installed in front of the Uchi Pillaiyar shrine atop the hillock, said the temple authorities.

A large number of devotees witnessed the holy event and offered worship to the deities in the temple. The authorities said 300 metres of cotton cloth was used for making the wick and placed in the copper cauldron and a mix of 700 litres of illupai oil, gingely oil, and ghee were poured on the wick to light the “Maha Deepam”.
