‘Surrogate mother’ ends life in Raidurg

A woman engaged as a surrogate by a couple died after falling from the ninth floor of a building in Raidurg on Tuesday.

The deceased Ashritha Singh, 26, was trying to escape from the residence through the balcony on the intervening night of November 25 and 26 when she slipped and died on the spot.

According to the police, the victim and her husband, natives of Odisha, were given accommodation by Rajesh Babu and his wife at their residence in My Home Bhuja. They moved here about a month ago and were waiting for legal approval for surrogacy.

Police questioning revealed that the woman sought her husband’s consent to discontinue the process.
