Goddess Padmavati rides ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’ on second day of Brahmotsavam

The deity of Goddess Padmavati Ammavaru was taken in a grand procession on ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’ around the Tiruchanur temple on the second day of the ongoing Karthika Brahmotsavams, here on Friday.

Decorated in the attire of ‘Maha Vishnu’, the majestically-decorated deity was mounted on the carrier representing a seven-hooded serpent. The procession was led by Pedda Jeeyangar, Chinna Jeeyangar, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Executive Officer (EO) J. Syamala Rao, Joint Executive Officers V. Veerabrahmam and M. Gouthami, Deputy EO C. Govindarajan.

A total of twelve cultural troupes, consisting of 272 artistes from various places, presented different art forms, including Bharatanatyam, fusion classical dance, ‘Siva-Ganga Nrityam’, ‘Veera Natyam’, ‘Chekka Bhajana’ and ‘Kolatam’.

Students of Sri Venkateswara College of Music and Dance, led by their principal Uma Muddu Bala, presented the mythological episode of ‘Ksheera Sagara Mathanam’. Braving the incessant showers, the artistes portraying the characters of Asuras, Devatas, Mandara Parvata, Vasuki, Kalpavriksha, Chandra, Mahalakshmi and Kurma performed well to keep the devotees entertained.

Meanwhile, women employees led by Ms. Gouthami offered a silk saree to the goddess on the auspicious Friday, which has been a practice followed since sometime. Female employees and spouses of various departmental heads also took part.

Books released

On this occasion, the EO released a bunch of devotional books published by the TTD, which included ‘Kavya Prabandhalalo Adhyatmika Kathalu – Visleshana’ by Errapragada Ramakrishna, ‘Betala Panchavimsati’ by Remilla Venkata Ramakrishna Sastri, ‘Matrusri Tarigonda Vengamamba Jeevana Charitra’ by T. Viswanatha Rao and ‘Upadesatrayam’ by Vavilikolanu Subbarao. Mr. Syamala Rao felicitated the authors in the presence of Annamacharya Project Director A. Vibhishana Sharma and TTD Sub-Editor Narasimhacharyulu.

In the evening, the deity was dressed in the guise of Goddess Saraswati and taken on ‘Hamsa Vahanam’, resembling a swan, around the shrine.
