1,000 stalls for book expo at mega literary meet at Mandya

Arrangements for the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana are on the 60 acre of land chosen for the event which is located on the outskirts of the city on the expressway

Even the arrangements are in full swing for the 87th Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana in Mandya, the dais committee of the Sahithya Sammelana on Friday said three mega dais are coming up in the 60-acre vacant plot where the Sammelana is being organised. The three-day Sammelana has been scheduled for December 20.

The inaugural event venue can accommodate 35,000 to 40,000 people as the main dais measures 600 feet by 300 feet. Two parallel dais and seating area with each measuring 11,000 square feet are also being readied.

Malavalli MLA and dais committee president P.M. Narendraswamy told reporters in Mandya on Friday that 1,000 stalls for the book exhibition will be made available besides 450 stalls for holding the expo. The right side of the main dais will have the book exhibition and the left side will have regular exhibition, he added.

He said proper food arrangements are being made for the participants. The dining area will be on the right side of the main dais, and the dining and kitchen areas put together come up to around 2,64,000 square feet. A separate pipeline is being established to supply drinking water for the occasion.

A complete picture of the sammelana with arrangements for the three days of the event will be made available on December 2. An official note on this will also be issued, the MLA said.

As many as 20 acres has been reserved for parking, besides a separate parking for the dignitaries. At nine different places on the 60-acre plot, toilet arrangements are being made, and proper signage will be put up to guide the visitors about the facilities.
