Coronation Street star jumps to Alan Halsall's defence after I'm A Celebrity 'row' with telling move
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsOne of Alan Halsall's Coronation Street co-stars has seemingly spoken out in his defence after the actor unexpectedly became involved in I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here's first 'row'.
It's not clear yet as to whether tensions are still rumbling on in the jungle after soap star Alan. who is famed for playing Corrie's Tyrone Dobbs, ended up in a mild bust-up with radio star Dean McCullough during Saturday night's (November 23) installment of the ITV reality show.
It came after a huge helping of junk food after latecomer's Maura Higgins and Richard Coles' sneaky secret mission and stomach-churning eating trial saw them win a huge treat for the whole camp.
Following their feast, a sleepy Dean decided to take a nap. But with chores still to do, Jane Moore had to go and collect firewood, . She confessed in keeping with camp rules: "I can’t do it on my own". Watching Jane head off on her own, Alan decided to take the reins and wake Dean up so he could help out.
But a sleepy and disorientated Dean was left less than impressed at being woken and hardly stirred as Alan asked him: "You don’t fancy it? No?". When he got little response from the BBC Radio 1 presenter, actor Alan decided to go down with Jane to help her so she wasn’t alone. As Dean headed to join Alan and Jane, he said to Alan: "You can go back now."
Alan then explained: "I was trying to wake you up as soft as I could.” Dean responded: "Listen to me. If you’re gonna wake me up, you need to give me a minute, alright? It takes a couple of minutes for my contact lenses to get back working again, alright, so you don’t need to turn around to me and say ‘do you not fancy it?’ ok? And then turn around and walk away."
Alan replied: "I’ve listened to you, Jane was halfway down here, that’s why I went…" to which Dean said: "Ok I get that but you need to give me a minute mate." The two continued back and forth, and Dean later said in the Bush Telegraph: "I opened my eyes and wee Tyrone from Coronation Street is like: 'Come on, mate, you need to go down to the bottom of the creek.'
"He didn't even give me a chance to say yes or no because he went: 'You don't fancy it? No?' and ran. He was being a real camp leader. I was like: 'Whoa, whoa, whoa don't dig me out like that.' And I had to say to him: 'If you're going to say: 'Don't fancy it?' - give me a chance'.
"Because, of course, I fancy it. I want to help Jane. I went straight down and helped her." Dean was later seen apologising to Jane before joining her in carrying the wood for the campfire. In his own Bush Telegraph moment, Alan said: "It was a flippant comment, I'm sorry if you took it in the wrong way. Wasn't actually meant like that, it was just a bit of a joke. If I was asleep and you woke me up, I won't fancy it either."
Following the scenes, which some I'm A Celeb viewers branded 'uncomfortable', Colson Smith took to social media. Alan's co-star, who is known for playing PC Craig Tinker in Corrie, posted a picture of his TV screen which showed his castmate in the Bush Telegraph.
He then added a screenshot of the Google dictionary's explanation of the word 'gentleman' which said: "A chivalrous, courteous, or honourable man," or "a polite or formal way of referring to a man", with Colson seemingly hinting Alan handled himself well during his awkward confrontation with Dean.
It came after Colson revealed he'd given all his free app votes to see Alan take part in the latest trial, Absolute Carnage, as he joked that it was perfect for him as he plays a mechanic in Corrie. "The trial is a mechanic trial... Alan/Tyrone is a mechanic. It's designed for him, it's perfect for Al! Let's get our Tyrone down there fixing that van..." before he begged his followers to vote for him.
