Coronation Street fans baffled by Alya Nazir's '180' as she makes unexpected return

Coronation Street fans have shared their confusion over Alya Nazier's sudden '180' as she made an unexpected return to the cobbles. The character left the cobbles earlier this year as the actress who plays her, Sair Khan, headed on maternity leave.

Sair took a break from the ITV soap earlier this year after she announced that she was expecting her first child last December. She kept much of her pregnancy out of the spotlight and as her temporary Corrie exit scenes aired on-screen, the new mum confirmed her son's arrival in May.

She said at the time: "He’s here! ...Our little boy is just marvellous. Very serious and curious about the world. He’s super strong and so resilient for joining me on the absolute rollercoaster that was our 22 hours of labour."

Sair's on-screen return as Alya has now aired during Wednesday night's (November 27) trip to Weatherfield. The character was soon in the mix of the action as Mason Radcliffe's older borther Matty Radcliffe is hauled in for questioning after Carla Connor was attacked during a break-in at Underworld.

But in a new legal role, Alya Nazir provides a statement corroborating his alibi. When a smug Matty makes a dig about Becky’s death, DS Lisa Swain snapped and is now convinced he must have had something to do with it.

Yasmeen Nazir, meanwhile was thrilled to have her granddaughter back and was proud that she has taken a new route in her blossoming legal career and is now shadowing a criminal solicitor. She later bumped into former colleague Adam Barlow, who was clearly pleased to see her again after teases of a romance before her exit.

But he was quick to point out she is supporting criminals getting away with their crimes, and it's something Corrie viewers also spotted goes against Alya's previous thoughts on the matter when she faced Max Turner following his inolvement with far-right extremists.

@COOL_D72 said: "So Alya made a massive fuss about Max and now she helps people so much worse than him go free. Wow that's quite the 180 #Corrie." @jeffnewton1 commented: "#Corrie Alya is busy getting criminals back on the streets ! True dat Adam." @homebrew19721 wrote: "Can't believe alya is defending [Matty]" (sic). @oliviasjareau addd: "Alya coming back and being on the matty/logan case instead of carla’s case is something i absolutely cannot get behind... #corrie."
