Vernon Kay has called out Tess Daly over an "absolute lie" that she allegedly told about Christmas presents and warned that it’s a "trap".

On his BBC Radio 2 show today, Vernon asked his colleague Richard whether he had bought his in-laws their Christmas presents yet, to which he admitted that he hadn't.

Vernon asked if he was "lastminute.com" and Richard explained that he was at the stage where his partner would just want to "do something together", highlighting the "little things".

However, Vernon cautioned against this approach. He explained: "I know...yeah, Tess said exactly the same. 'Look, don't get me this; don't get me that. Just let's keep it..."

"I'm like, no, I know by now that that is an absolute lie. Yeah, it is. It's a trap. Yeah, yeah; so I'm planning ahead."

It's not the first time that the much-loved presenter has used the phrase "lastminute.com", as Hello! reported in 2023 that Vernon was late buying presents that year too.

Yet, the former Family Fortunes star said he enjoys that way of shopping as he likes the "rush" and the "excitement", pointing out that others are in the "same boat" and it's a "bit panicky".

He went on to say that he thinks those who decide to do their shopping early miss the "buzz" of Christmas. Vernon, who is married to Strictly Come Dancing star Tess, has two daughters, Phoebe and Amber.

The couple have been married since 2003, having met at a BBC Christmas party before becoming close and then getting married in 2003. Prior to her stint as a presenter on the popular BBC dance competition, Tess worked as a model.

In other news, Vernon recently told his Radio 2 co-star Jeremy Vine to "behave" himself and wind his "neck in" after he revealed a surprising view live on air.

In a discussion about the nutritional value of the humble croissant, Jeremy said: "Ah, it's full of just garbage, yeah; terrible." Vernon said it could be eaten in "moderation", but Jeremy disagreed, saying: "No, you don't eat poison in moderation."

Vernon replied: "Behave yourself! Wind your neck in, Vine! A croissant? Poison? "
