BBC Strictly Come Dancing's 'gutted' Amy Dowden issues health update after 'crying' with co-star

by · Manchester Evening News

Amy Dowden has issued a fresh health update after being forced to withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing. The dancer was joined by her co-star who agreed she was looking much better after 'crying' with him over her unexpected exit from the BBC One dance contest.

Amy made a triumphant return to Strictly Come Dancing earlier this year after being forced to miss the last series for cancer treatment. But earlier this month, Amy was forced to miss the first-ever 'Icons Week' on Strictly after "falling ill" the weekend before following the show's Halloween special.

She went on to miss a week of rehearsals to rest and as a result, Amy's fellow pro Lauren Oakley stepped in so JB could continue to perform his couple's choice routine in 'Icons Week', which saw the couples perform to a song from a legendary singer or band.

But soon after, it was confirmed that due to a foot injury, 34-year-old Amy needed to recover and therefore couldn't continue in the competition. It was then confirmed that JB would carry on in the latest Strictly series alongside Lauren and last weekend, they wowed with their first performance, a samba, as an official Strictly couple.

Amy has said she is supporting the couple, however, in a new message admitted she's still gutted to no longer be in the competition. Taking part in a Q&A on Instagram with her Strictly co-star Carlos Gu as they prepare to tour together for the first time next year, the Welsh star was asked how she's doing.

In response in a video post to her Instagram Story on Tuesday (November 12), Amy said: "Quite a few have asked this and I'm not doing too bad, thank you. I've seen the doctor today, got more physio tomorrow. Obviously I'm still truly gutted. I can't tell you." She turned to Carlos and said: "You know how I've been haven't you about having to pull out of the competition?"

She went on: "It was out of my hands. I'd have done anything to continue." Again signalling to Carlos, Amy said: "This one was there for me. We cried together, didn't we? But you think I'm looking better don't you in myself." Carlos added: "I opened the door to her and she looked so much fresher!"

Amy interjected: "It's the first time you opened the door to me not crying!" She added: "Just gutted but I'm super proud of JB. As I keep saying, this too shall pass. Don't get bitter, get better! Thank you for asking."
