Netflix viewers rage 'what the hell!' as iconic comedy sequel is axed after just two seasons

Netflix subscribers have been left disappointed once again as another highly-rated series has been axed after just two seasons.

Adding insult to injury, this follow-up to a cherished 1990s sitcom wrapped up its latest chapter with a tantalising cliffhanger and countless unresolved plotlines.

The successor to the hugely successful That 70s Show featuring Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, a third season of That 90s Show won't be gracing our screens in the near future.

Starring reprised cast members Debra Jo Rupp and Kurtwood Smith as Kitty and Red Forman, the series centres around their granddaughter Leia (played by Callie Haverda), who forms new friendships during her summer stay with her grandparents in 1995.

Launched in two parts in June and August 2024, the second season left Leia's destiny hanging in the balance after she chose to remain with Kitty and Red in Point Place for the academic year, reports the Mirror.

However, her mother Donna Pinciotti (Laura Prepon) had a disagreement with Kitty over the decision, and the season finale ends with hints that she might reconsider her choice to let Leia stay.

Simultaneously, Leia's relationship with Jay Kelso (Mace Coronel) was also left unstable after Jay deceived her about stealing Kitty's keys to host a party on the school's rooftop, hinting at a potential breakup in the now scrapped Part Four.

That 90s Show enthusiasts have since expressed their frustration on social media, particularly given the multitude of unresolved narratives.

One outraged viewer raged on X: "What the hell?!!! Noooooo, at least give the series a proper ending please!"

Another fan expressed their disappointment, saying: "Well this sucks! I loved this show, fingers crossed someone picks it up and we get season 3. You can't leave us on a cliffhanger like that!"

A third viewer blasted Netflix, asking: "WTF @Netflix - why do you keep canceling awesome shows?

"Imagine if every show was canceled after two seasons just because it's not getting the numbers you expect. Give a show a chance, especially this one!"

Meanwhile, on Reddit, fans were also lamenting the show's cancellation, with one saying: "I'm actually kind of disappointed. Part 2 was weak but Part 3 was their best and it felt like they'd finally found their footing."

However, not everyone was sad to see the show go, with one user arguing: "The nostalgia wore off after like 2 episodes. It just wasn't as funny. The cast also lacked the original's chemistry."

Although the show has been cancelled, there is still a possibility that it could be revived on another streaming service if fan demand is high enough. For now, however, the future of Leia in Point Place remains uncertain.
