Davina McCall fights tears as she's seen for first time since brain surgery to remove tumour

by · Manchester Evening News

Davina McCall was left fighting tears as she was seen for the first time since undergoing brain surgery. The presenter shocked fans earlier this month when she revealed she was having surgery after doctors discovered a 14mm wide tumour during a random health scan.

She said in a video posted on Instagram at the time: "A few months ago, I did a menopause talk for a company and they offered me a health scan in return, which I thought I was gonna ace. But it turned out I had a benign brain tumour called a colloid cyst which is very rare. Three in a million. So I slightly put my head in the sand."

Davina explained how colloid cysts are very rare, saying three people in a million get them. They are small fluid-filled sacs located in or around the lateral and third ventricle of the brain.

The Long Lost Family host and Masked Singer judge explained how she sought opinions from neurosurgeons and after getting their advice, decided the best course of action was to get the tumour removed and she went under the knife for a craniotomy.

Her partner Michael vowed to keep her loyal fans updated and recently returned to social media on Monday (November 18) with news on Davina that Davina was out of ICU and said: "Update- Mega progress these last 24 hours. Massive relief to see some light breaking through. Thanks for all the good vibes coming in from all angles. Up and Up. Michale. xxx."

The hairdresser also wrote in the caption of the post on Instagram: "Update folks. Thanks so much to all the well wishers. She really has made an enormous leap forward in the last 24 hours. She is out of ICU She is 'loving awareness'. Thank you xx Michael."

Davina spoke to fans for first time since her surgery

Davina has now said she is "on the other side", but some work to do on her short-term memory, as she spoke directly to her online following in a new video. Alongside the clip, in which she could be seen resting in bed as she became emotional over the outpouring of support she'd recieved, Davina said: "Hey!!! … thank you . For the messages . It’s meant the world .

"Just want to thank @mdlondon , who gets best boyfriend ever award. Voted for by me and everyone that knows us . Also … best mum ever award … goes to @gabbamccall. Thank you mumma . For being best grandma … and mumma ever . I am feeling much better. Had a great nights sleep in my own bed . Have a couple of sleeps during the day which keeps my brain clear … slowly slowly…"

Davina, 57, said in the video: "A heartfelt thank you to everybody who has messaged me, or been in touch," before she paused as her voice broke. "... It's meant the world, it's been mad. And it's just really nice to be back home."I'm on the other side. My short term memory's a bit, um, remiss. But that is something I can work on so I'm really happy about that. I'm writing down everything I'm doing, to keep myself feeling safe."
