Gemma Atkinson was left emotional as she reflected on her 40th birthday celebrations while also joking she was 'still alive' after her big bash in Manchester.

The Hits Radio host got 150 of her nearest and dearest together on Saturday (November 16) as she celebrated the milestone occasion. On the eve of her big day, Gemma shared a selfie as she lay in bed alongside her daughter Mia, five, and told her fans and followers: "Last night in my 30s.

"Tomorrow marks a new decade. Feeling happy, content, excited and extremely grateful." The Bury-born star then hilariously added: "I'm assuming my 40s will still be as rock n roll with my 9pm bedtime," adding a crying laughing emoji.

But things did get more rock n roll as Gemma headed out into Manchester as she gathered her loved ones together to celebrate - including Hits Radio co-star Mike Toolan, former Hollyoaks colleague Nikki Sanderson, Emmerdale actress Amy Walsh, and her Strictly Come Dancing pal Helen Skelton.

She reshared a string of pictures shared by her party guests to her Instagram Story over the weekend as well as videos which included one of everyone singing happy birthday to her and her Strictly pal Janette Manrara who was celebrating her 41st birthday on the same day.

Alongside a huge group shot, in which Gemma dazzled in a sparkling strapless silver mini dress which she paired with black tights and heels with a matching black choker. Writing a caption for the snap the morning after the night before, Gemma said: "Fabulous night celebrating! Feeling it today."

Gemma has since returned to social media on Monday (November 18) and spoke to her fans in a video. Sharing it to her Instagram Story, the mum-of-two said: "I'm alive," before bursting out laughing.

She continued: "Wow, yesterday was a write off. I had my big party, turned 40, on Saturday - what a day! It was amazing. I had a big, big party, about 150 people - friends, family, colleagues of past and present. I was genuinely blown away by the turnout."

Gemma added: "I've just been going through my gifts, cards and I've actually been crying... It was just so wonderful and yesterday I was so hungover, baring in mind I barely drink, I drank and then some! It was brilliant. I absolutely love it. Thank you for all your lovely birthday messages."
