BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans cry 'robbed' as they spot Jamie Borthwick's 'over' reaction
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsStrictly Come Dancing fans were left crying that Jamie Borthwick had been 'robbed' of his place in the competition after spotting his reaction to being 'over' being on the show.
The EastEnders actor and his professional dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas became the ninth couple to leave the BBC One dance contest on Sunday night (November 24), meaning they just missed out on a place in the quarter-finals.
They landed in the dreaded dance-off for the first time and went up against Olympian Montell Douglas and her partner Johannes Radebe, who found themselves in the bottom-two for a second week in a row, in a bid to keep their place in Strictly's 2024 series.
Jamie and Michelle reprised their graceful foxtrot to Stand By Me by Ben E King, which landed them a score of 32 from the judges during Saturday's (November 23) live show before Montell and Johannes performed their quickstep to Get Happy by Ella Fitzgerald again in a bid to impress the judges, which had earlier earned them a score of 37.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges unanimously agreed to save Montell and Johannes, sending Jamie and Michelle home. Reflecting on his time on the show with co-host Tess Daly, soap star Jamie hailed Strictly as "magic" and praised those who work on the show.
He told co-host Tess Daly: "Not just everyone who you see in front of the camera, these four here (the judges), but everyone who works on this show, I have such a good bond and relationship with and that’s what made me want to do this show, it’s the people, not what I’m doing. I’ve had the best time."
Rushing to social media to respond to the news, Strictly fans claimed Jamie had been robbed, but his earlier comments also struck a chord with viewers. When it was confirmed he'd have to dance again, Jamie was asked how he was feeling by Tess to which he replied: "Yeah good! It's part of the show. In a really funny way I'm kind of a bit pleased I'm experiencing it, because it's the whole experience.
"I've had the high of [reaching] the top of the leaderboard; low at the bottom of the leaderboard; experienced the dance-off — I feel like I've had the full package so in a funny way [it's] actually all right and I get to dance it again!"
@infinityauras said: "#Strictly Jamie being pleased he’s in the dance off. He’s so over this show bless him." @hannahhou commented: "Jamie and Michelle have been absolutely robbed here. Should’ve been quarter finalists, semi finalists and finalists #Strictly." @Siobhan2088 added: "Absolutley gutted Jamie went home. Shouldn't have been in the bottom 2, let alone go!! He had my vote every week. I loved his dancing and his partnership with Michelle. I wanted him in the final. Bloody joke #strictly."
