BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Chris McCausland's 'true feelings' on win with Dianne Buswell exposed
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsChris McCausland's 'true feelings' on his Strictly Come Dancing win with Dianne Buswell has been uncovered days on from the show's glittering 2024 final.
The comedian and the Australian professional dancer were crowned the BBC One dance contest's latest champions on Saturday night (December 14) following the last live show of the 20th-anniversary series after 13 weeks of dancing.
After Tess Daly announced them as this year's winners of the Strictly's 20th-anniversary series, Chris said it was "astonishing" to win. He cried and hugged his partner Dianne after the title was announced, with them both appearing to be in disbelief.
Both Chris and Dianne have since tried to summarise their win, with Dianne taking to social media to share her thoughts and Chris appearing in his first TV interview at the start of the week.
Now, body language and behavioural expert Darren Stanton has revealed signs the comedian, 47, was ‘totally gobsmacked’ and in ‘disbelief’ with the outcome.
Darren has revealed how Chris 'wasn’t expecting it at all', shown by his 'still' facial expressions in the immediate moments after the result was announced, and claims the pair are the 'closest a couple have been' in terms of 'platonic rapport' he has ever witnessed on the programme.
Speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, Darren said: "With Chris and Dianne, they were totally shellshocked, total disbelief on their faces. Chris in particular was totally gobsmacked to win, he wasn’t expecting it at all. There was a moment just after his name had been called with Chris where he just didn’t react, his face was just still, it was a good few seconds before the enormity of what had just happened kicked in.

"Them wrapping themselves around each other, full proper hugs and their hands are reciprocated. This is the definition of a genuine hug. They were totally authentic and well connected, in terms of a friendship, they developed such a strong relationship."
He went on: "Chris and Dianne, this is probably the closest a couple have been in terms of platonic rapport and connection. No couple I can recall has ever displayed a higher degree of rapport and trust on Strictly than these two. There’s such a high degree of them being comfortable with each other. He’s worked incredibly hard, and they’ve increased the standard week by week. They have a deep rapport that while purely platonic, all the signs are there that they have a very deep connection.2
