BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Nick Knowles issues update from sofa as he shows off knee injury

by · Manchester Evening News

Strictly Come Dancing star Nick Knowles said he was 'gutted' to be missing this week's live show as he issued an update to fans from his sofa.

The DIY SOS star announced on Friday night that he would not be performing with his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk this week due to a knee injury he sustained during dress rehearsals.

As Saturday's Movie Week live show took place, Nick posted an update to his fans as he sat at home cheering on his fellow celeb contestants. Sharing a photo of himself dressed up in a smart black suit with his knee strapped up in a black support, Nick said he was 'gutted' not to be dancing.

"Gutted not to be out there with everyone tonight on the @bbcstrictly dance floor, but still suited up and cheering them on from the sofa!" he told his fans. A pair of crutches could also be seen propped up on the sofa next to him.

Nick, 62, was due to perform a Charleston to Rain On The Roof from Paddington 2. The TV star will go straight through to next week's show instead of facing the public vote this week.

Last night, Nick confirmed that he had injured his knee after falling during rehearsals and will need to go for an MRI scan.

He said: "During our first dress rehearsal today, or run-through of the dance number on the stage, unfortunately I damaged my knee and it’s quite painful. So the physios have decided I need to go for a MRI." He vowed to try and be back to dance next week "even if we have to glitter up the crutches".

Fans were sad to see Nick sat at home instead of on the dancefloor with the rest of the Strictly stars. Commenting on his social media post, one fan wrote: "So sorry you're not dancing tonight and I really hope your knee can heal in time to have you back next week. We don't want to lose you! You are looking very smart there!"

Another told him: "Take it easy, I know just how much knee injuries hurt, so you have my sympathies." A third said: "So sorry you’re not dancing. I hope you heal up all ok."

The opening to Movie Week saw the Strictly Come Dancing professionals transform into minions from the Despicable Me franchise, with Kai Widdrington, who does not have a partner this year, dressing as Gru, the grouchy former supervillain and protagonist of the film series.
