Wayne Rooney drops ITV I'm A Celebrity bombshell after fearing 'trouble' with wife Coleen
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsWayne Rooney stunned the stars of I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here's spin-off show as he dropped a bombshell about appearing in the jungle himself as wife Coleen takes part in the current series.
The former Manchester United and England star appeared on I'm A Celebrity: Unpacked on Saturday night (November 23) to chat about Coleen's I'm a Celeb adventure so far but went as far to admit that he would be up for doing the hit ITV reality show next.
His comments came after he encoruaged I'm A Celeb viewers to vote for his wife to do a Bushtucker Trial as he feels she would want to “put herself to the test”. The 39-year-old said he was “proud” of how Coleen was doing in the Australian jungle in a post on social media ahead of Saturday's show.
The couple, who first met at school and began dating aged 16, share four sons – Kai Wayne, Klay Anthony, Kit Joseph and Cass Mac. "Proud of @ColeenRoo on @imacelebrity she’s doing great," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter, alongside a collage of photos of her on the show.
"Me and the boys would love to see her doing a trial and we know she’d want to put herself to the test. If you can download the #ImACeleb and let’s get voting!"
At the end of Saturday’s episode, it was revealed Coleen would be taking on the next Bushtucker Trial alongside BBC Radio 1 presenter Dean McCullough. Wayne then followed up his social media post by joking: "Think I could be in trouble here. Good luck @ColeenRoo #ImACeleb."
Speaking to Joel Dommett, Kemi Rodgers and Sam Thompson on I'm A Celeb spin-off Unpacked, Wayne admitted he was Coleen and it was the longest he had been without seeing her since they were children. "I think it's the longest, you know, I've been without speaking to her since we were kids," he said.

"And for the children, obviously it's difficult not being able to speak to the mum. But Coleen’s parents are helping out obviously, while I’m over in Plymouth living there at the minute with my work. There's a good team looking after the kids and making sure everything is done. And so, we're missing her, but we're enjoying watching as well."
Wayne also said he had been voting for her to do the trials, as his social media posted suggested, as he told the hosts: "Yes I would love for her to do a trial. It’s all part of the experience, and I think she'd be great as well.” He also said he would have a poem waiting for her when she comes out. “I've always liked doing and writing poems and expressing my feelings in a different way as well. And yeah, so there'll be one waiting for her for sure."
When asked if he was pleased people were seeing the ‘real’ Coleen, Wayne said: “She's a nice person, a warm person and a very caring person. And I think that's coming across, you know, I think she's probably in the middle of the older ones and the young ones, so she's probably bridging that gap a little bit. But I think she's absolutely shown her personality, character, and I think that's coming across strong. So, it's great to see it in there and see her settling in as well over the last few days."
Speaking about him and Coleen being fans of the show, Wayne shared: "I think Celebrity is the best one. And the one which we always said, if we were ever going to do one, that's the one we do. And obviously Coleen’s gone out there to test herself," before being asked if would ever do the show. He said: "Maybe, if I'm not working, I would like to do it. But at the minute, obviously, that's not possible."
