Coronation Street's Max star says 'we weren't allowed to know' as Joel Deering murder scenes 'threw' him
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsCoronation Street star Paddy Bever has revealed that the cast 'weren't allowed to know' exactly how Joel Deering's death would play out as Weatherfield's 'biggest-ever' whodunnit nears an end.
There were shocking scenes during Wednesday night's (November 13) edition of the ITV soap as Max Turner confessed to killing the solicitor with flashbacks showing the moment the teen confronted Joel on a railway track.
In the episode, DS Lisa Swain confided in Carla Connor that she believed she was being framed by Joel's killer after DC Kit Green arrested her earlier this week and she explained she was terrified that more planted evidence would turn up.

Knowing what she saw on the night Joel died, Carla confronted Max and Lauren Bolton only for them to keep up their story that they were planning to do a runner to evade Joel after his string of attacks on Lauren.
But Carla reported them to the police and while they planned to go on the run, Lauren told Max she couldn't go through with it because of baby Frankie. He convinced her to take him with them but he ended up confessing to Kit that he had murdered Joel. He revealed how he had confronted him using Lisa’s CS spray, only to have been overpowered by Joel, who strangled him while holding him over the edge of a bridge.
Max recalled how he picked up a rock and hit Joel with it, before pushing his body into the river below and running off with his suitcase. Following his confession, Max was charged with murder but with Joel's killer set to be revealed later this week, is Max telling the truth?
Meanwhile, back at Dee-Dee’s flat, Lisa quizzed Lauren about Max's confession, asking her if she had anything to do with Joel’s death. Lauren insisted that she didn’t, before admitting that she suspected something strange was going on but had kept quiet because she loved Max.

Speaking about filming the gloomy scenes, actor Paddy revealed: "We actually filmed all of the scenes on the same block and we had Duncan Foster, our director, whose guidance was great so we weren’t scared of giving anything away. The only thing that threw me off was when I filmed my flashback and because I didn’t know what the rest of that particular episode looked like, and we weren’t allowed to know what exactly happened, I wasn’t sure if I had the murder weapon in my hands which made it really interesting for us too."
But he also shared his delight at being involved in Corrie's biggest storyline at the moment. The soap star, who discovered Max's involvement earlier this year, said: "I really enjoyed it. I thought it was terrifying because all of these people had done so much amazing work on this story, really, and I kind of come in at the end and have all the final scenes to do.
"In terms of that, it was amazing and I didn’t really know what to expect because I wasn’t involved in the filming leading up to it, but at the same time, it was quite nerve racking trying to match what was already filmed, which hopefully I did and won’t be letting anyone down!
