How much did BBC Children in Need raise in 2024?

It's an unmissable event that never fails to bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. BBC Children in Need is a stalwart of the TV calendar, and each year raises incredible sums of money to support children across the UK.

On Friday (November 15) the show returned for a glittering ceremony hosted by Ade Adepitan, Mel Giedroyc, Rochelle Humes, Vernon Kay, Chris Ramsey, and Lenny Rush.

There were tear-jerking moments, appearances from everyone from the Strictly professionals to the Gladiators, and one huge final surprise as the hosts revealed how much money had been made.

Since 1980, the night has raised over one billion pounds to help support disadvantaged young people and their families in our communities.

It hit a record fundraising total in 2016, where a whopping £60 million was collected to go to fantastic charities across the nation.

While this year's total didn't quite hit that record, generous donors still gave £39 million in support of wonderful causes, with the number likely to rise. £8.8 million of that number came from Bolton radio star Paddy McGuinness' gruelling 300 mile cycle ride from Wrexham to Glasgow, where he pushed himself in aid of the charity drive.

Highlights included Doctor Who star Ncuti Gatwa introducing a preview from the show's Christmas special, and a sketch from the Outnumbered cast.

The night also saw the premiere of a new music video for Girls Aloud's version of I'll Stand by You - where the lead vocal was sung entirely by Sarah Harding. Stockport-raised Sarah died from complications related to breast cancer aged just 39.
