How to vote for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024 online and by phone
by Elizabeth Cotton · Manchester Evening NewsThe iconic BBC Sports Personality of the Year award is back for its 71st year and will be presented by Gabby Logan, Alex Scott, and Clare Balding.
With this year being the home of the Euros, Olympics, and Paralympics, there's been no shortage in sporting entertainment, especially as we witnessed the England men's team compete in the Euros 2024 final against Spain.
The BBC Sports Personality of the Year will take place in MediaCityUK, Salford, the home of BBC Sport on Tuesday 17th December.
Discussing the sporting achievements of 2024, co-presenter Gabby Logan said: "The last 12 months have been huge for sport. We were treated to the biggest and most prestigious sporting competition on the planet, the Olympics", before adding that athletes from "sports that don't always get the recognition they deserve" were put on "centre stage".
Former professional footballer and co-host Alex Scott echoed: "There has been so much sport this year I don’t know where to begin", with Manchester City continuing to dominate the Premier League "winning it for the fourth time in a row", as well as Chelsea's winning streak in the Women’s Super League.
With seven other awards up for grabs, co-host Clare Balding shared that her favourite award is for the unsung hero: "it gives a chance to thank those who get young people started and who make sport special." In 2023, Des Smith won the award for being the "driving force" behind Sheffield Caribbean Sports Club since 1986, a haven for young people to participate in football, cricket, hockey, and netball.
The main award, however, is voted for by the public and the winner will be announced during the show.
How to vote for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2024
- You can start voting for this award during the Sports Personality show.
- Go here to vote online. If you want to vote online, you need to sign in to your BBC account. If you do not have an account, you will need to register before you can vote.
- You can scan a QR code, this will be displayed on screen during the show, using your mobile, tablet or computer.
- If you prefer to vote by phone, you will be told during the live show when the vote has opened and telephone numbers will be given.
- You can only vote once and must be in the UK to vote online.
