Coronation Street's Shona actress Julia Goulding reveals 'barneys' with co-star Jack P Shepherd over characters
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsCoronation Street star Julia Goulding has revealed how she and her co-star Jack P Shepherd have 'barneys' on set as they get passionate about their characters' stances in different storylines.
As fans of the ITV soap, the pair are famed for playing married couple Shona and David Platt and the pair are currently facing a bit of an uncertain future after Platt matriarch Gail put their beloved family home, No.8 Coronation Street, up for sale to support her grandaughter Bethany Platt after being unexpectedly hit with medical bills.
Last month, Corrie viewers saw David breaking the news to his wife Shona that Gail’s had taken out a bridging loan to pay for Bethany's medevac flight home from Turkey after her botched surgery horror and that she was committed to selling the house.

David was then seen trying to find the money to be able to buy the house himself, making a deal with Gail to give him time before she looks for another buyer. But in typical Gail fashion, she didn't listen and David was furious to find a 'for sale' board outside the family home before Carla Connor popped round with Ryan for a viewing.
And he was clearly desperate as after trying to put Carla off buying the property, it was revealed that he was the one who stole jailed Damon Hay's cash, which he offered to his ex Sarah, David's sister, telling her he had some hidden cash he wanted her to have to help with Bethany's medical bills.
But since then, the family have been rocked by Gail's health scare as she suffered a heart attack. She's expected to make a recovery and proposed to returnee Jesse Chadwick as she begins to think of a future away from the cobbles.
Asked how Shona is feeling about the possibility of a fresh start, actress Julia shared: "Shona is the beacon of positivity in this difficult time, she’s trying to stay positive for the kids and for David who has been really down about it.
But Shona is set to have more to deal with in upcoming scenes as her son returns. Clayton Hibbs is currently in prison having been put behind bars in 2016 for the murder of Kylie Platt, David's then-wife. His return starts next week on the ITV soap when David confides in brother Nick Tilsley about concealing the visiting order from Clayton from Shona.
Nick advises him to come clean to his wife as she’s bound to find out in the long run. David forms a plan and is soon seen visiting Clayton in prison. Later, David finds Shona in a terrible state and she reveals that she had a visit from the police and that Clayton is in hospital. Will David come clean about his meeting with her son?

When asked how Shona will feel when she finds out David was in touch with Clayton and had a hand in what has happened, Julia revealed: "Jack and I are very much on her own characters’ sides in this, we’ve had barneys in the green room about who’s right, David is to blame!
"When Shona finds out her husband has been gaslighting her and had a part in Clayton trying to take his own life, I dread to think what she’s going to do. But I don’t think she’ll take it lying down!"
As for how this will affect their marriage, Julia teased: "Trudging through treacle is probably a good analogy. There’s going to be a lot of anger and pain, a possibility they could destroy each other. There’s a lot of change already for David, his mum is leaving, the house might get sold, stress with the stolen money which Shona doesn’t know about yet, it's like living in a washing machine!"
She added: "The sad thing is they’ve been so solid for so long Shona is David’s final crutch. But he’s destroyed it himself in my opinion. I really am Team Shona in this!"
