BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Pete Wicks says 'I'm well aware' as he speaks out after escaping dance-off

Pete Wicks has spoke out on making it through not another week on Strictly Come Dancing after some viewers thought he escaped the dance-off this weekend following a surprising routine.

The BBC One dance contest returned on Saturday night (November 16) for its annual live show from Blackpool as the eight remaining couples performed at the resort's iconic Tower Ballroom.

When it came to Pete's turn to take to the world-famous sprung floor, it was his costume choice that got viewers at home talking. The reality star and podcast host and his dance partner Jowita Przystal were seen dancing a cha cha to I’m Too Sexy by Right Said Fred.

Pete pretended to be a train inspector before tearing off his jacket to reveal a pink shirt and tight pink trousers. At one point he lay on top of the other dancers and later danced with his back to the audience. He then finished the routine wearing a pink fluffy jacket.

Judge Shirley Ballas called the performance "very entertaining, I don’t think I’ll forget this evening for as long as I live", and praised the "good isolation, clean neckline". Motsi Mabuse told Pete she "loved it for all the wrong reasons", and "wished the dancing had supported it".

However, Craig Revel Horwood commented: "You fought the dance, un-coordinated, behind the beat, bent leg but huge fun." As the couple received 27 points out of a possible 40, including a four from Craig, which left them bottom of the leaderboard on the night.

But, during Sunday night's (November 17) results show it was revealed that the pair had made it through to week ten of Strictly's 2024 series, which visibily left them both in shock as they couldn't believe Tess Daly had announced them as being safe for another week in the competition.

Following the results show, Pete took to Instagram and alongside a picture of himself and Jowita and spoke directly to fans. He said: "Humbled. Overwhelmed. Grateful. I’m well aware I’m not a good dancer, but I am trying. Every week @jowitaprzystal and I just want to make the most of what we can.

"We take it day by day, week by week. I know VERY little about dancing but what I have learnt is that it’s about letting go and throwing yourself at it no matter what level of skill/talent you may or may not have. I know I make mistakes, I know I don’t have rhythm and I’m wooden but I won’t stop trying. I’ve tried my best from day 1 and I’ll continue to try my best for as long as I’m allowed to be part of the show.

"Your support has been mind blowing and each week you continue to show @jowitaprzystal and I love and we couldn’t be any more grateful. It’s down to you that we have managed to make it to week 10. THANK YOU." He then added: "I promise you will never see me in latex again."

Referring to the end of the message, Strictly's official social media team asked: "Pinky promise?" to which Pete responded with a string of crying laughing emojis.
