BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Kai Widdrington seen with Coronation Street star as he ditches ballroom for 'new office'
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsKai Widdrington has been seen with a Coronation Street star as one of his new on-stage partners as the Strictly Come Dancing star ditches the ballroom for his latest gig.
The professional dancer was recently seen during the BBC One dance contest's grand final over the weekend . He joined the cast of 2024 as they returned to the dancefloor for one last bright and joyous routine, before he also joined singer-songwriter Raye for a special performance of Oscar Winning Tears.
But following the final, Kai was straight into his next job as he previously revealed he'd be joining the world of panto this festive season.
He's set to star Captain Hook at Liverpool’s The Auditorium, at the M&S Bank arena, in their production of Peter Pan and will star alongside former Corrie star Kimberly Hart-Simpson as Tinkerbell.
Previously sharing a poster for the event, which begins on Tuesday (December 17), on Instagram, in which the dancer could be seen sporting a magnificent mustache, Kai wrote: "It’s panto season! Come see me us at the M&S arena Liverpool for Panto this Christmas - fun for the whole family - oh yes it is!"
This week, as he returned to rehearsals before opening night, Kai shared a snap of his script in the auditorium and said: "My new offfice for the rest of 2024."
He then re-shared a picture of himself and Kimberly, who plays Nicky Wheatley in ITV's Corrie, which she had captioned: "@kaiwidd Panto week," before he added: "Here we go!!!"
It comes after Kai recently broke a world record as he emerged as winner of the Strictly 2024 Pro Challenge on spin-off show It Takes Two. The annual competition sees the various Strictly professionals aim to perform as many repetitions of a dance step in 30 seconds, with the person emerging victorious setting a record in the process.
For the 2024 challenge, the talented group of dancers were tasked with performing a Time Step from the cha-cha-cha, with judge Craig Revel Horwood and adjudicator Will Munford overseeing the contestants as they counted and verified the steps made in each attempt.
When the final results were revealed, Kai and fellow Strictly pro Neil Jones were welcomed into the studio by host Janette Manrara, with the aim of beating the previous attempt of 14 steps, which was set by Nadiya Bychkova. After the broadcast of their attempts, Janette revealed that both of the male pros had performed 15 Time Steps in 30 seconds. However, while one of them had no disqualifications, the other had one, meaning there was one clear winner for this year's record.
Janette then revealed it was Kai who had topped the leaderboard after one of Neil’s steps had been disqualified, moving him down to second place in the leaderboard for the third consecutive year. “It feels good. I might retire early because I feel it doesn’t get much better than that," Kai said following his triumph. "I’m gutted [for all my fellow professionals]. I feel so bad, but I’m very happy. Thank you Mum and Dad, all my family. Thank you for everything."
