The competition is truly underway in Strictly Come Dancing this weekend following the first shock exit of the series and the hunt for the Glitterball trophy continues.

The celebrity contestants and their professional dance partners will return to the ballroom on Saturday night (October 5) and week three of the BBC One dance contest will be bringing the 'lights, camera, action' of the film world with Movie Week, the first special of the 2024 series.

However, there will be only 13 couples performing this weekend instead of the expected 14 after Nick Knowles confirmed an injury has forced him to pull out of week three of the competition.

Confirming the news just over 24 hours before week three of the BBC One dance contest gets underway, a Strictly spokesperson said on Friday (October 4) "Unfortunately, Nick Knowles sustained an injury during rehearsals and as a result, will not dance this weekend. As per the rules of the competition, Nick and Luba will receive a bye through to next week when he is hopefully able to dance again. Everyone at Strictly Come Dancing wishes Nick a speedy recovery."

It comes after singer Toyah Wilcox and her dance partner Neil Jones and Olympic swimmer Tom Dean and his professional dancer Nadiya Bychkova found themselves in the first dance-off of Strictly 2024.

After both couples danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts. Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Toyah and Neil, Motsi Mabuse chose to save Toyah and Neil and Anton Du Beke chose to save Tom and Nadiya. Head judge Shirley Ballas had the casting vote and by saving Toyah and Neil, sent Tom and Nadiya home first.
