Emmerdale fans are certain that they've cracked the devious plot of John Sugden after noticing 'something not right' in Wednesday's episode.

Earlier in the week, Aaron Dingle, portrayed by Danny Miller, was grappling with the news that Rebecca White had passed away, meaning her son Seb would now be in the custody of Rebecca's aunt.

Viewers will remember Aaron's former partner, Robert Sugden, enacted by Ryan Hawley, is Seb's biological father and is currently serving time for Lee Posner's death.

The distressing news about Rebecca were conveyed by her former partner, Ross Barton, played by Michael Parr, who recently made his comeback to the village after a six-year hiatus.

The revelation has caused Aaron emotional turmoil as he wonders why Seb wasn't placed with him or Robert's sister, Victoria Sugden, reports Leeds Live.

Opening up to Victoria, she expressed that Robert indeed viewed Aaron as a "second dad" to Seb and held great affection for him but pointed out that a stable home with Rebecca's aunt was better for the youngster.

The interaction was overheard by Aaron's new love interest, John Sugden, who happens to be the long-lost half brother of both Robert and Victoria.

John attempted to get information from Victoria but she insisted he speak to Aaron instead. On Wednesday's episode, Aaron reluctantly opened up to John about Robert but when John continued to press him about his feelings, a defensive Aaron stormed out.

Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers were quick to get suspicious over John and his need for listening in on Aaron's chats, as well as grilling him on his past.

One person said: "I think John isn’t the real John and he’s been in jail with Robert, remember the name on the dog tags …something is not right. #emmerdale" while a different account wrote: "Why's John so interested all of a sudden?"

Emmerdale introduced new character, John, played by Oliver Farnworth, back in August and he soon struck up a romance with Aaron before realising his past with his long-lost family.

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
