BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans say 'cancel' show as they issue 2024 verdict after spotting moment that 'summed it up'
by Jessica Sansome · Manchester Evening NewsStrictly Come Dancing fans have issued their verdict on the 2024 run of the hit show - and spotted the moment that 'summed up' the grand final.
The BBC One dance contest came to an end for another year on Saturday night (December 14) in a spectacular last live show which saw Chris McCausland and Dianne Buswell crowned the 20th-anniversary series champions.
Chris, who made history as Strictly's first blind winner, and dancer Dianne beat Miranda actress Sarah Hadland and partner Vito Coppola, Love Island star Tasha Ghouri and dancer Aljaz Skorjanec and JLS singer JB Gill and partner Lauren Oakley to lift the famous Glitterball trophy.
Upon being crowned winner, Chris was clearly stunned as he covered his mouth with his hand while Dianne squealed before they both broke into tears as they realised they won the competition. It also marks the first win for Dianne, who has made it to the final with social media star Joe Sugg in 2018, and Eastenders actor and model Bobby Brazier in 2023.
After being announced as the 2024 series winner, Chris, 47, said: "This is for her (Dianne) and it’s for everyone out there that thought and got told they couldn’t do something. It just shows with opportunity and support and determination, anything can happen.”
He also thanked Australian dancer Dianne, 36, saying: "She deserves this so much. She’s just honestly one of the easiest people to be funny with – and unless she changes her number, she’s stuck with me."
And Strictly fans were left branded the 2024 run the 'best series' as they flocked to social media to have their say. @s_ffron7 said: "I usually hate when people say it but this is actually the best final of Strictly Come Dancing ever! #Strictly #StrictlyFinal #StrictlyComeDancing."
@the_aze commented: "Probably the best series of #Strictly EVER - and there has been plenty of fantastic shows previously All 4 couples on #StrictlyFinal were winners - there were possibly 6 or 7 couples in total who could have reached the final and won - talent was so good Thank you @BBCOne."

Others, meanwhile, were pointing out that the show's professional dancers summed up the Strictly 2024 final as they were all spotted in tears. @scddevereaux said: "Clauditorium summed it up best #strictly." @MollyStephens_ commented: "I belonged in the Clauditorium tonight. Sobbed my way through #StrictlyFinal. Chris & Diane the most worthy of winners."
