Prince William's favourite drink speaks volumes about the type of King he will be
Prince William might be the future King but he has surprisingly simple tastes when it comes to his tea, opting for a cup of something strong and no-nonsense to keep him going
by Gemma Strong · The MirrorPrince William and Princess Kate have a reputation for being surprisingly down-to-earth given their royal status - and that extends all the way to the future King's choice of hot drink.
Royal fans might expect William to start his day with a fancy cup of tea served in a fine china cup. Not so, according to one expert. Arthur Gautier of Nio Teas, a premium brand that specialises in Japanese green teas, spoke to Luxurious magazine about the fact that "each royal has their go-to favourite".
And he revealed that William will reach for a cup of something strong and no-nonsense to keep him going ahead of a busy day of royal engagements.
"I imagine that he starts the day with a hearty mug of English Breakfast while prepping for royal duties (or chasing after the kids!)" Arthur told the publication, noting that it's the tea of choice for someone who needs energy and focus.
William himself has revealed he will only drink tea - not coffee - which he enjoys with a splash of milk and sugar.
In 2022, the Prince lifted the lid on what he eats and drinks on an average day when he filled out a nutrition sheet during a royal engagement.
He said he had started the morning with two eggs and wholemeal toast with butter, alongside a glass of apple juice and a cup of tea. He noted that he takes his tea with sugar - but admitted he was 'trying to cut down' - and said he will have around three cups a day "to keep him going".
It's by no means William's only down-to-earth habit. Royal fans were surprised to hear that he and wife Kate enjoy cosy nights in with a takeaway when they're at home
In 2017, during an interview with BBC Radio 1, the Princess disclosed her top takeaway choice. "Curry, definitely," she confirmed. "It doesn't usually get ordered to the palace, we tend to go and pick it up," she added, quickly clarifying: "Not ourselves! "
While Kate prefers her food spicy, William confessed he likes his dishes milder. Speaking to footballer Peter Crouch on his podcast in 2020, he admitted he is "not a vindaloo man put it that way" and prefers a chicken tikka masala. The Prince has also said he is a big fan of Nandos, having been introduced to the chain by his police protection officer.
Takeaways, it seems, are a hit with other members of the royal family, too - including the late Queen. It has been revealed that the former monarch would always order the same tasty treat when she stayed at her beloved Scottish retreat, Balmoral - and would send a footman to collect her order. An insider previously confirmed to Fabulous: "She very occasionally treated herself to fish and chips when at Balmoral. A footman is dispatched to get it from the local town of Ballater."
