Sara Sharif's mum Olga now from fleeing country to haunted by 'sadistic abuse'
Sara Sharif's devastated mother Olga Domin said her daughter's smile could brighten up the darkest room. She hopes her evil ex will die in jail for murdering her 'princess'
by Vikki White · The MirrorSara Sharif's murder was one of the most difficult and distressing cases Surrey Police had ever dealt with.
The 10-year-old was beaten to death following years of abuse at the hands of her evil father Urfan Sharif and step-mother Beinash Batool, who were convicted of murder at the Old Bailey. Her uncle Faisal Malik was convicted of causing or allowing the tragic youngster's death.
Today, Sharif was sentenced to life in prison, to serve a minimum term of 40 years behind bars and Batool was sentenced to life in prison, with a minimum term of 33 years. Malik was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment and ordered to serve up to two thirds of his sentence in custody.
Mr Justice Cavanagh said Sara Sharif had been treated 'as if she was worthless' and said neither her father or stepmother had 'any concern for her happiness'. He added that Sara had been 'singled out' for abuse among her siblings by Sharif and Batool because she was a girl and not Batool's 'natural child'.
The judge added that the young girl has suffered 'almost unbelievable torture' in the last weeks of her life. "It is hard to imagine how terrifying this was for Sara, especially at the hands of her parents," he said.
Sara's short life was filled with torment, with the child suffering 25 broken bones after being hit repeatedly with a cricket bat, mobile phone and metal pole, iron burns on her buttocks, boiling water burns on her feet and human bite marks on her arm and thigh.
The youngster had been the subject of a child protection plan from birth in January 2013, due to concerns she was at risk from father Sharif and mother Olga Domin. Social services were repeatedly called after children including Sara suffered unexplained bruising, bite marks, burns and scratches.
Sharif played on his partner's broken English and vulnerability to blame her and in 2019 the killer was awarded custody of his daughter. Olga would go onto tell Polish TV channel Uwaga of her killer ex: "Once, he tried to set me on fire, poured oil on me, but his cousin stopped him. He simply locked me in a room. Locked me in all day until the police arrived."
Sara's mum claimed Sharif would offer the children chocolate if they hit her, allegedly encouraging a teenager to emulate his cruelty towards her. He eventually left Olga to marry his cousin in Pakistan, before coming back to the UK to marry again, this time to killer Batool.
Gaining custody of Sara after a bitter battle with Olga, Sharif embarked on a campaign of torture at the family home in Woking, Surrey, with the child's step-mum joining in. "Did you think I was such a terrible, unfit mother?" said devastated Olga after her daughter's death. "They had Urfan's file, showing how violent he was, didn't they? If they had taken that into the system, Sara would still be alive."
Olga fled Britain with her new husband Krzysztof Bednarz weeks after her murder. A pal said: "She was completely devastated. I don't think she wanted to stay in the country where such a thing had happened to her daughter. She needed to get away. It's very sad."
Playing tribute to her 'princess' in a statement released by Surrey Police, she said: "My dear Sara, I ask God to please take care of my little girl, she was taken too soon. Sara had beautiful brown eyes and an angelic voice. Sara's smile could brighten up the darkest room.
"Everyone who knew Sara will know her unique character, her beautiful smile and loud laugh. She will always be in our hearts, her laughter will bring warmth to our lives. We miss Sara very much. Love you princess."
Of her killer ex, she told the Sun: "Monster is too nice word for him. I hope he will be dying in jail."
