A Stockport-based man plans to treat his family after winning £10,000 every month for a year – including making an adorable pledge to build his daughter a playground.

Dan Cole, a manager for a kitchen company, is planning to take his partner and their daughter on their first family holiday after winning £10,000 every month, for a year, on Set for Life from The National Lottery.

The 32-year-old also hopes to renovate his home, which would include building a garden play area for his daughter and indulge in an extra special Christmas for his family.

Dan said: “We bought our first house together a couple of years ago and are still working on the renovations to turn it into our dream home.

“We’ve been saving up to give the bathroom a makeover and set up a play area in the garden for our little girl, so it feels great knowing we can afford to do that now.

“We’ve never been on a family holiday together and we want to see the world… now that we have our win to enjoy, we’ll certainly be ticking off our wish list of places to visit. I really want to travel to America, and my partner wants to explore Europe, so we’re just figuring out where to go first!”

The Manchester City superfan also expressed his excitement to go on more trips to watch away games with his club.

“I’m a huge Man City fan and come from a long line of supporters of the club – I already have a season ticket but I’m looking forward to fitting in a few away games now that I have my win to enjoy," he added.

Looking back on the moment he won, Dan shared that he couldn't believe his eyes when he spotted the message from The National Lottery telling him that he had a prize waiting that he had not claimed yet, whilst checking his emails on a lunchbreak.

He revealed: “When I checked my messages, I thought ‘this can’t be right!’ and rechecked everything again and again. I honestly couldn’t believe when I saw how much I had won.

"I called The National Lottery claim line straightaway to tell them I thought I’d won – at that point I already knew I had won, but I wanted to hear someone else say it out loud to confirm it as it just didn’t seem real.

“When they told me I had definitely won, I wasn’t sure what to do. I thought about calling my partner to tell her, but decided I wanted to tell her face-to-face so I waited until after work. Waiting to tell her was so difficult, but I’m glad I did because that feeling of telling her in person was the best feeling ever!”

After Dan shared the news with his family, he waited for a busy work period to end before informing his colleagues. “When I told everyone at work, they all looked at me like I was mad! I like to play the odd joke, so they didn’t believe me at first…I even had to prove that I’d actually won and now they’ve all started playing too," he said. “You sometimes don’t hear about many people you actually know winning The National Lottery, so when it does happen to someone in your life, it proves that it really can happen to anyone!”

Dan also revealed that he doesn't usually play the draw. Instead, he only purchases tickets as and when he wants. "I usually go for a Lucky Dip for my numbers because I think when people choose numbers, they tend to go for special dates such as birthdays and anniversaries, and that means you could be missing out on all the numbers over 30 or 31," added Dan.

The Stockport-based father won the second tier prize of The National Lottery’s Set For Life in October, and he will now receive £10,000 into his bank account every month for the next year.

The Set For Life game's top prize is £10,000 a month, but for 30-years instead of one, as Dan won.
