by · Variety

The Federation Internationale de Football Association, colloquially known as FIFA, and Mythical Games have partnered for “FIFA Rivals,” a new mobile football video game to be released on iOS and Android.

According to an official description, “In ‘FIFA Rivals,’ gamers will have the unique opportunity to create and manage their very own football club. Players will be able to build, level up and enhance their lineups, and then use their teams against other players in real-time PvP arcade-style gameplay.” “FIFA Rivals” will be free-to-play, but includes in-game and web marketplaces utilizing Mythical’s Mythos blockchain. This will allow players to buy and sell football stars using real money.

An official release date for “FIFA Rivals” has yet to be announced.

Since its first release in 1993, “FIFA” has emerged as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time. “FIFA 12” holds the record for the fastest-selling sports game ever, moving 3.2 million copies in the first week of release. The 30th and final installment in the series, “FIFA 23,” was released on Sept. 30, 2022, and has sold over 10 million copies since.

Founded in 2018, Mythical Games is the first developer to integrate a blockchain marketplace on iOS and Android. Some of their other credits include “Blankos,” “NFL Rivals,” and “Nitro Nation World Tour.”

“We are excited to partner with FIFA and leverage our expertise to create an unparalleled football gaming experience,” Mythical Games CEO John Linden said. “The combination of officially licensed football stars (past and present), prestigious clubs from around the world, and globally competitive esports gameplay will take sports gameplay to a new level. Through this long-term partnership with FIFA, there are major plans to integrate into the FIFA esports platform to give players in every country the ability to become a participant or fan.”

“We’re thrilled to partner with Mythical Games to launch ‘FIFA Rivals,’ bringing football fans a mobile-first gaming experience that deepens their connection to the sport,” secretary general at FIFA Mattias Grafström said. “The game is an innovative and accessible addition to our expanding gaming and esports portfolio.”
