‘The Pitt’ Trailer: Noah Wyle Returns to the ER in Max’s New Hospital Drama

After nearly 15 years on “ER,” Noah Wyle puts his scrubs back on in Max’s new hospital drama series “The Pitt.”

The show, from “ER” and “West Wing” executive producer John Wells, will begin airing its 15-episode first season in January. “The Pitt” is described by Max as “a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Penn.”

The entire first season takes place across one 15-hour emergency room shift, with each one-hour episode representing real time, a la “24.”

“That was baptism by fire,” one doctor says after executing a procedure in the high-intensity trailer. “More like baptism by blood,” another doc responds.

“Welcome to The Pitt. Let’s go save some lives,” says Wyle, who stars as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. The cast also includes Tracey Ifeachor, Patrick Marron Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Fiona Dourif, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Katherine LaNasa.

“The Pitt” has already become entrenched in controversy before the series has even aired, as the estate of Michael Crichton has filed a lawsuit against Warner Bros. Television, alleging “The Pitt” is an unauthorized reboot of “ER,” which Crichton created. Warner Bros. TV has fired back at the suit, saying “‘The Pitt’ is a completely different show from ‘ER,'” with HBO boss Casey Bloys recently telling reporters that he doesn’t expect the litigation to have an impact on “The Pitt’s” January rollout.

R. Scott Gemmill will write the first episode of “The Pitt” and executive produce the series alongside Wyle, Wells and Erin Jontow, Simran Baidwan and Michael Hissrich of John Wells Productions.
